320- Why Buy Annuities? Annuity Awareness Month


June 1 marks the beginning of Annuity Awareness Month. Research has shown that consumers don’t fully understand how annuities can help them secure their financial futures. I have spent over 20 years of my business career involved in all aspects of the annuity industry. With all the economic uncertainty and market volatility we are experiencing today, annuities may present a financial tool you can use to address key challenges in your financial plan.


This is a great time to take two hours of your time to better understand annuity products. As I wrote in my book, Today’s Annuity Products – A Tool to Create Protected Lifetime Income, annuities can be a tool you can use in a retirement planning strategy. Current retirees and those planning for retirement are facing substantial challenges like finding guaranteed lifetime income. With a continuing increase in lifespans, the time spent in retirement can be lengthy. This is having a guaranteed source of lifetime income is essential to ensuring you have the cash you need to live a long life.

There are 10,000 people per day turning age 65 and 16.5% of the U.S. population is now age 65 or older. By 2030, all Baby Boomers will be at least 65 years of age. Life insurers have brought new product structures to market (e.g., buffered or registered indexed linked annuities), new indexing strategies and new innovative features such as long-term care benefits and the ability to pay for advice from the annuity product without triggering current income taxation.
